After reading so many great reviews on Yelp about The Smog Man, my expectations were pretty high. I was pleasantly surprised by the incredibly speedy service, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere... 3 things I never thought I'd write about a test only station! I did not have an appointment, it was easy to find, and I learned a little bit about my car before I left. Don't forget to print the coupon on the official cite to get $20.00 off (my total was $58 after discount). I promised another good review comin' your way, Smog Man. See you in 2 years =)

Have you EVER been to a smog station where you actually enjoyed the experience? Philip is a friendly, courteous, English-speaking mechanic. That's four attributes that are sorely lacking from the vast majority of smog stations in San Jose. Even the AAA Car Care center (one of the more reputable in the area) once got in an argument with me about which gas cap I should have and nearly failed my car before I could get the manager out to point out that he was using the wrong test nozzle thing. I have never had to wait long, and while he does cost a bit more than the coupon people, he doesn't charge more for unique vehicles. And it's every other year, people... That comes out to less than $5/month. You can do this, if only to support a good business. If we all keep supporting the lowest quality just because it is also the lowest price, eventually the world will come to an end and we will all die. Do you want to be responsible for the END OF THE WORLD? Didn't think so... go to Smog Man!

I found The Smog Man when I needed a smog check and checked Yelp to locate someone. He was highly rated by a good number of folks, so I gave him a try. I called around noon to see if there was a wait and was told it was all clear. I arrived and was taken care of immediately. Extremely friendly and fast. Clean shop and clean waiting room. I was out of there in ten minutes. I highly recommend and will use him again when I need another smog test.

I visited this morning and there was no wait. Smog Man took care of my baby and I was in and out in ~10 minutes. His shop is clean and it looks like he's very organized. Fast, friendly service at a reasonable price. What more could you ask for?

Top notch! I came in around 3 PM without an appointment and didn't call ahead. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The owner was friendly. I used the $20 coupon but still paid $58. I guess a guy's gotta make a living and I really didn't mind paying that because he speaks perfect english and was able to answer all my questions. I've been to about 10 different smog check places in my life and this is the first one to speak english. Yes, english rates high in my book. The worst part of the whole thing was waiting at the stop light for the light-rail tracks near the shop, which I can't blame on The Smog Man.

Fast, friendly service. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes with a "drop in" visit at lunch. The tech was attentive and friendly (we even discussed public radio a bit). The place was clean and there was a waiting room with Scientific American. With the coupon (^^^^^look above ^^^^) I even saved a few bucks. Test Only Smog isn't exactly the most scintillating task to get done, but with The Smog Man it was fast, easy and a decent value. As a added bonus, A.J.s is just across the street (it's a different line of business and is worth of a review....but not here...).

So it isn't in the best part of San Jose and it's a little tricky to see it, tucked in the back of a lot around other automotive places. But . . . the guy who helped me was fantastic. I had to come twice since I didn't pass the first time and both times he was friendly, attentive, quick, informative and really great. The first time I only had to wait about 5 minutes before he started on my car. So quick! They have a waiting room, complete with chairs, coffee table with magazines, soda machine and a burning, scented candle! Surprising for and auto place! But a welcomed surprise. Also the bathroom was clean and nice. Again with a a candle burning. I was really surprised honestly. There is a coupon so definately take that! And the guy recommended me a place to fix my car and it turned out great and affordable!

i had high expectations for the smog man after reading the other posted reviews here. and as i expected, the shop was very clean, and the owner was very nice. i was in an out of there in under 15 minutes. i appreciated his ability to juggle several customers at once with ease, and never letting anyone feel ignored. he is fast, curteous and reasonably priced (get the coupon online for a discount). this is the old-fashioned type of customer service that has, for the most part, gone by the wayside, yet kept alive by a few honest folks like the smog man. your smog even comes with a smile and a handshake.
