Top notch! I came in around 3 PM without an appointment and didn't call ahead. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The owner was friendly. I used the $20 coupon but still paid $58. I guess a guy's gotta make a living and I really didn't mind paying that because he speaks perfect english and was able to answer all my questions. I've been to about 10 different smog check places in my life and this is the first one to speak english. Yes, english rates high in my book. The worst part of the whole thing was waiting at the stop light for the light-rail tracks near the shop, which I can't blame on The Smog Man.

Fast, friendly service. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes with a "drop in" visit at lunch. The tech was attentive and friendly (we even discussed public radio a bit). The place was clean and there was a waiting room with Scientific American. With the coupon (^^^^^look above ^^^^) I even saved a few bucks. Test Only Smog isn't exactly the most scintillating task to get done, but with The Smog Man it was fast, easy and a decent value. As a added bonus, A.J.s is just across the street (it's a different line of business and is worth of a review....but not here...).

So it isn't in the best part of San Jose and it's a little tricky to see it, tucked in the back of a lot around other automotive places. But . . . the guy who helped me was fantastic. I had to come twice since I didn't pass the first time and both times he was friendly, attentive, quick, informative and really great. The first time I only had to wait about 5 minutes before he started on my car. So quick! They have a waiting room, complete with chairs, coffee table with magazines, soda machine and a burning, scented candle! Surprising for and auto place! But a welcomed surprise. Also the bathroom was clean and nice. Again with a a candle burning. I was really surprised honestly. There is a coupon so definately take that! And the guy recommended me a place to fix my car and it turned out great and affordable!

i had high expectations for the smog man after reading the other posted reviews here. and as i expected, the shop was very clean, and the owner was very nice. i was in an out of there in under 15 minutes. i appreciated his ability to juggle several customers at once with ease, and never letting anyone feel ignored. he is fast, curteous and reasonably priced (get the coupon online for a discount). this is the old-fashioned type of customer service that has, for the most part, gone by the wayside, yet kept alive by a few honest folks like the smog man. your smog even comes with a smile and a handshake.

The Smog Man is awesome! He is a young family guy who is honest and...oo just go to him...he rocks!

The smog man IS the man! Very friendly and professional. Quick too. I was very impressed.

Finding it: The shop is set back at the end of a driveway sandwiched between two buildings so watch for the Smog Man sign on the sidewalk to know where to turn in. Plenty of parking outside, one testing bay inside. The shop itself is painted in all white, walls and tools are kept sparkling clean. There's a tidy waiting room which I did not have time to sit in because the smog test was taken care of so quickly! The owner Phillip is amiable, very competent and fast. I was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes. He had very kind words about my old rickety car, too, I left his shop feeling better about my car than I have in a long time.

After reading all the great reviews for The Smog Man, I decided to give it a shot - and I'm glad I did. The shop is tucked away and you can drive right past it if you're not on the lookout; however, the facility itself is extremely clean and well maintained. The owner-operator is a great guy, very easy going, and quite a conversationalist. Although it was a one-man-show on the day I stopped in, I was in and out in under 15 minutes. Before going to The Smog Man, my car had failed smog on a technicality at a shop in Santa Cruz (I have a JDM engine and the bozo tech couldn't figure out how to find the ignition timing on a J-Spec engine). The Smog Man had no trouble finding the timing mark, and my car passed without any problems. Be sure to visit the web site and print out the $20 off coupon before going in.

As the other reviews have stated, it was quick and easy. With the online coupon the Smog Man deserves an extra star.
